51.com: How honest is the Chinese Internet?

By Oliver | May 18, 2007

Is the Chinese Social Network 51.com really as big as it claims? Mashable posted about its user numbers and the newest investment. Sequoia Capital China, SIG, Intel Capital and Repoint decided to put $ 10 Mio. into it. Quite a good line up. But is it worth it? I had to take a peep…

Mozillas strategy is not up to date: Chris Messina sums it up and gets bashed (by some)

By Oliver | May 14, 2007

I have seen the 50 mins of (helpful and friendly) Mozilla criticism by Chris two times now. First thing I had to do was to write a longish article for my German blog. Now its time to answer Chris’ call and comment on the reactions from some of the Mozilla guys. I agree with Chris, and I appreciate your way of starting the discussion. But some comments were really bad.

Here is the video by the way:

(Viddler is great! The integrated video comments, tags… Especially the tags helped me find a few things.)

What is re:publica? The who is who of the German blogosphere

By Oliver | April 13, 2007

re:publica is storming the Technorati Charts. But what is the re:pulica? Who is there? And what is it about? I have the answers. It is the blogger conference in Germany. All major Bloggers (as if the Germans had many) are here and quite a few German web2.0 entrepreneurs are joining in. I ran around today, taking photos like a madman. Now I want to show everyone outside of Germany, who is behind the blogosphere and what it is all about in Germany.

English Webworkblogger starting now

By Oliver | April 5, 2007

Hi!
At last I can start my English blog! I have “only” been blogging in Germany until now. It is great fun, I have met lots of people and I will keep it going. But still, blogging in German is not enough.

I want to connect to other people from other countries and write about a few German topics. Hopefully I can share a few insights into the German culture, business and the Web 2.0 world. And I want to learn more about other cultures, connect and share.

Europe is a great place, with many colourful cultures and habits. But even though the people virtually live around the corner, and even though we form a kind of state together, there is too little understanding or knowledge of the others. I want to change that. Maybe I can, a bit.

In addition to this I have a burning passion for the Chinese culture. I am studying Chinese and try to learn as much about the land of the middle as possible. So several Chinese topics will crop up, as well as some technical and business stuff. Oh, and I try to travel to as many barcamps as possible.
